What YOU Need to Do before Your Headshot Photography Session

photographers in Charlotte nc

1. Get plenty of sleep the night before your headshot session. You’ll feel and look great.

2. Try on your tops and make sure they fit properly and then take the time to iron them. Remember to keep it simple-no garish jewelry or crazy patterns.

Keep your selection of tops to simple, one or two color tops. You don’t want to be remembered as the one in the wild shirt.

3. Keep colored tops to dark shades, the brightest thing in the photo should be you! We can go through your clothing and jewelry before the shoot so please bring

a good variety. And make sure you feel good wearing whatever you bring. You should look and feel comfortable.

4. Make sure your tops are plain and also have nice, simple necklines. Not a ton of jewelry. You need to be a blank canvas. Keep it simple!

5. Drink plenty of water, this will help with your skin to look fresh and hydrated. And have something to eat. Don’t add the stomach noises to the butterflies you might feel.

6. Don’t use can tan or hit a tanning booth the day before - my camera will pick up all different shades and lines. And you might look fake and that

will show in your headshot.

7. Practice with you hairstyles. Look in a mirror and say to yourself “Is this how I want to look? Is it really me?” if yes, you are ready to go!

8. Discuss with your agent or human resources folks what they and you want from the headshots and what look you should be going for. And tell me so I can have the same vision.

9. Hair… Girls - Wear your hair as you would in a comfortable way. We can try different hair styles to see what looks best, but practice before and have a clear idea of what you want.

Men/Ladies - Don't get a haircut the night before your shoot. You may not like it. Make sure you have a few days with that haircut so it will settle down and look…like you!

10. Make up - Keep this natural. It's always better to add as we go. I would bring a collection of different of lipsticks etc. Nothing too heavy or dark.

If you have any blemishes/spots - DO NOT FEAR, I’ll retouch anything that won’t be on your skin in a week. And if you’d like a hair and make-up person to come along-that would be great.

I even have suggestions of great hair and make-up folks I’ve worked with in the past on my price list.
