What you need to do during your headshot session

headshot portrait photography charlotte nc

1. Nerves - I have heard this a million times, “I get nervous in front of cameras” “ I don't photograph well” or “I am really scared” but

within seconds I will have you laughing and you wont remember what you were worried about. You will have fun. I promise.

2. Focus - During the shoot (as staring into a camera for a long time can make your eyes go into

each other) feel free to take a break. Take a deep breath. Walk around the room. Go to the bathroom. Get lost. Just say the word.

3. If you are on an outdoor headshot shoot, wear something underneath like multiple shirts, a sweater, coat or sweatshirt so it's easy to change. Make your wardrobe as versatile as possible.

I will be looking mostly at your face, but your tops are sometimes a major part of the canvas.

4. We won’t stop until WE are both happy with the selections. You’ll see what I see-at least on the back of the camera and probably on a computer monitor.

You are the client and I want you as happy and comfortable as possible with the headshot of you that I create. We will colloborate on everything.

5. I’m not going to direct you much. I just want you to be yourself. You will LOOK comfortable when you are comfortable. If you feel that you are NOT portraying this,

then say something and I’ll make changes.

6. Remember to laugh! Remember to smile! That’s a cure for everything!

7. Trust me - I have photographed thousands of people just like you so let me work my magic. You can trust me to make your headshot or portrait look great and look just like you.

8. I may put you in angles you are not normally in but I promise these are making you look great! Be ready

to experiment. Not everything works for everyone and be ready to have a laugh at yourself.

9. Sounds obvious but look right down the lens and grab that viewer with your eyes! No matter what you want your headshot to say-

you want to connect with the viewer and you do that with your eyes!

10. Remember your headshot needs to represent the real you! You need to look like you. Sure don’t want a client that hires you not recognize

you from the headshot that we make together.
